off?
If you have something on your credit report more than 7 years old and write them are they suppose to take it?
Bdancer is right. The only thing I would add is that there is a caviat to this; if they make contact with you and you refuse to pay them, OR if you set up a payment plan to pay off the outstanding debt, your seven years has just started over. Example; you have a AMEX credit card balance from five years ago. They have not been able to contact you, so the account is probably in the suspense account file at whatever collection agency is currently has your file. Then lets say, that a skip tracer finds your current addresss, and they send you a notice to call them. You open the letter, not knowing who it is, and respond to them, and you verify that you are the debtor, voila! You are now starting all over again. They have the right to collect from you because they were in the seven or so year time frame, and you now become a %26quot;live file%26quot;. Oh, one more thing, if you find that there is a trade (line of credit) that should have rightfully been removed from your credit report, contact the agency (Transunion, Equifax, etc.) NOT the company that extended the trade to you, to take it off. Blessings....

crazyjester is correct in his answer
Jmizzle is extremely misleading %26amp; absolutely incorrect by claiming it is legal to illegaly reage an acct on a credit report
Once an acct is charged off NOTHING can legally reage it to report for a longer period Report It

Negative items are suppose to fall off your credit report 7-1/2 years from the date of first deficiency. If you have a derogatory item that is older than this, dispute the item with the credit bureau as being beyong the 7 year reporting period.
Public record items like judgments, liens, bankrutpcy stay for 10 years. Items in good standing typically stay for 10 years but those are to your advantage.

Yes. The 7 years runs from date of first delinquency. Dispute it with the credit bureaus as obsolete.
Edit:
Jmizzle...what kind of TERRIBLE advice is that?!? That is wrong in every way!
NOTHING can legally reset the 7 year clock. Doing so is called reaging and a violation of FCRA/FDCPA law and the offending creditor or collection agency can be sued for that.
If you have something on your credit report more than 7 years old and write them are they suppose to take it?
For most negative items, that is true.
For positive or neutral information, that is not true.
Some bankruptcies are allowed to remain for 10 years.
Unpaid tax liens can remain forever.

Accounts are removed from your credit report seven years after being closed. Clearly you have a few outstanding debts that need to be paid (sad). Have you considered a second job?
