If you can get your credit report for free, why do they ask for a credit card number?

They shouldn%26#039;t. You are being taken in by one of the credit report monitoring services ... like www.freecreditreport.com. You have to dig a little deeper to get the freebie you%26#039;re entitled to.

If you can get your credit report for free, why do they ask for a credit card number?

Because they have to know the card number to test your card

or because they will end up billing you. Either one.

If you can get your credit report for free, why do they ask for a credit card number?

They should not ask for a credit card number. It is free once a year or anytime after you have been denied credit to purchase something. Do not give out your credit card number at all.......

If you can get your credit report for free, why do they ask for a credit card number?

hey

Why do they say "Free credit report" then they want a credit card. are they going to rip y

Yes, they are a rip off.

Go to the Federal Trade Commission%26#039;s website and use the link there, then you know it%26#039;s the correct spelling.

%26quot;The Federal Trade Commission (FTC) advises consumers who order their free annual credit reports online to be sure to correctly spell annualcreditreport.com, or link to it from the FTC閳ユ獨 website to avoid being misdirected to other websites that offer supposedly free reports, but only with the purchase of other products.%26quot;

Why do they say %26quot;Free credit report%26quot; then they want a credit card. are they going to rip you off?

that would be a yes

Why do they say %26quot;Free credit report%26quot; then they want a credit card. are they going to rip you off?

They%26#039;re selling their product. They offer the %26quot;free%26quot; credit report to rope you into buying their product.

Why do they say %26quot;Free credit report%26quot; then they want a credit card. are they going to rip you off?

They are going to sign you up for a subscription that will automatically debit your credit card unless you jump through all their hoops within the first couple of weeks. They will make it difficult to find out how to cancel and you will end up paying for a full year subscription.

Good Luck

Why do they say %26quot;Free credit report%26quot; then they want a credit card. are they going to rip you off?

probably. i would avoid it. if you need a credit report contact the three credit bureaus

Why do they say %26quot;Free credit report%26quot; then they want a credit card. are they going to rip you off?

They want to sign you up for a %26quot;credit monitoring service%26quot;.

Why do they say %26quot;Free credit report%26quot; then they want a credit card. are they going to rip you off?

Yes

Why do they say %26quot;Free credit report%26quot; then they want a credit card. are they going to rip you off?

Most states have laws where you are to get one free credit report each year from each of the credit reporting agencies... Other then that, don%26#039;t listen to those companies who promiss something free..........

Why do they say %26quot;Free credit report%26quot; then they want a credit card. are they going to rip you off?

Its a free credit report (when you sign up for....)

You are signing up for a subscription on those sites.

Federal law says you get a free credit report from each of the credit bureaus each year.... those are really free, and do not require a credit card.

www.equifax.com

www.transunion.com

www.experian.com

Why do they say %26quot;Free credit report%26quot; then they want a credit card. are they going to rip you off?

Usually you get the first one free but what they do is start charging you every month to send you any inqueries that are made to your report. You can get the one free but make sure to read carefully and cancel or they will charge your card every month.

Why do they say %26quot;Free credit report%26quot; then they want a credit card. are they going to rip you off?

Well yes they are. It also put a hit against your credit! But new laws have came into effect that you are aloud one free credit report a year per credit reporting agency( there is three) Trans-union, equifax, and experian. You can go to http://www.annualcreditreport.com and get a FREE credit report from all three w/o giving your credit card info. Hope it helps.

Why do they say %26quot;Free credit report%26quot; then they want a credit card. are they going to rip you off?

Most likely they do rip you off. Anyway, why do you want to know in the first place? If you pay your bills when they are due, then you probably don%26#039;t even appear in any report. In addition, they ask you all kinds of personal financial questions. Why would you discuss your financial

situation with a credit report institution.

I say : It%26#039;s a scam !

Why do they say %26quot;Free credit report%26quot; then they want a credit card. are they going to rip you off?

Each person gets one free credit report each year. It can be found at free annual credit report .com. The difference is the word annual, otherwise you get directed to the site that charges you and makes you become a member first.

Why do they say %26quot;Free credit report%26quot; then they want a credit card. are they going to rip you off?

Sort of. They%26#039;re going to sign you up for a service on an ongoing basis, and charge your card for the service if you don%26#039;t cancel.

Why do they say %26quot;Free credit report%26quot; then they want a credit card. are they going to rip you off?

You can get one annual free credit report from each of the three main reporting agencies from www.annualcreditreport.com . It is a calender year btw, so if you get one in October, you have to wait until October of the following year until your next free one. One suggestion is to go to the website, apply for one of the agencies%26#039; reports, then four months later check another one, repeat. That way you can check several times a year (chances are the three companies will vary slightly in their content).

If you go to a website that offers a free credit report, it is usually with the enrollment of their credit monitoring program. Usually, the first 30 days are free before they charge you. Before the annualcreditreport.com was available, I used to go to these sites, sign up, get my report, wait 2 days then call and cancel my enrollment (no charges). Just make sure you call and cancel your enrollment or you%26#039;ll be paying!

I belong to a credit monitoring program called www.mycreditinform.com . It%26#039;s about 5 bucks a months and I get a quarterly report plus a credit score check anytime I want (only from equifax). Plus they have a 1-800 number that you can call and talk with a credit specialist about disputing things on your credit report. They also have sample dispute letters on their webiste for members. I%26#039;m very happy with it.

oops...one more thing. If you get denied credit for any reason, you can receive a free credit report from each credit agency within 30 days of the rejection. Just contact each agency.

Why do they say %26quot;Free credit report%26quot; then they want a credit card. are they going to rip you off?

The only truly free reports are at http://AnnualCreditReport.com

ACR was set up by the big three credit reporting agencies in the United States, to furnish free annual credit reports, as required by federal law.

What credit company does GEMB/PCR stand for on a credit report?

I %26quot;think%26quot; GEMB is the finance arm of General Electric. GEMB is the source for many private label credit cards like Walmart %26amp; J.C. Penney. I%26#039;m not sure of PCR.

What credit company does GEMB/PCR stand for on a credit report?

I had GEMB come up with my JC Penny Credit card. I suppose PCR stands for Private Card R???

What credit company does GEMB/PCR stand for on a credit report?

General Electric Merchants Bank?

When i get my personal credit report does that count as a inquiry on the report?

No, it is considerd a %26quot;soft pull%26quot; so it does not affect your credit. You can pull your credit report once per year for free (no credit card required) at www.annualcreditreport.com

When i get my personal credit report does that count as a inquiry on the report?

It does count as an inquiry but it does not affect your FICO score, the only inquiries that affect your FICO score are when you apply for things (loans, credit cards, etc) ....businesses have a right to check your credit with a permissable purpose due to the Fair Credit Reporting Act. It is a good idea to check your credit frequently...remember you get 3 free credit reports per year....one from each credit reporting agency ( Experian, Trans Union, and Equi Fax). You might also want to think about credit protection, this way you will be informed of any changes to your credit immidiately.

When i get my personal credit report does that count as a inquiry on the report?

no you get to look at your report once a year, if more than this it will show up, but looking once a year is a freebie

What looks better on your credit report? paying your credit cards off or making payments over time?

If you max out your card and pay them on time your score will be low

your balance needs to be a maximum of 30% (of your limit) and paid on time to recive 100% positve feed back from credit cards.

If your cards are maxed out and you pay them ontime you will have bad credit in most cases.

I had a 540 credit score with no mortgage perfect auto and credit card payments and all cards maxed out

Paid off my credit card and score whent over 700. Keep your balances low.

What looks better on your credit report? paying your credit cards off or making payments over time?

over time

What looks better on your credit report? paying your credit cards off or making payments over time?

Keeping you credit cards off at less than a 50% balance shows that you can maintain and handle credit. It is better for you to pay them off so that you don%26#039;t have to pay interest.

What looks better on your credit report? paying your credit cards off or making payments over time?

Either will not reflect poorly on a credit report. What DOES reflect poorly on a credit report is not making your payments on time.

What looks better on your credit report? paying your credit cards off or making payments over time?

Payment over time is better

What looks better on your credit report? paying your credit cards off or making payments over time?

its better on ur credit report to pay them off over time aslong as ur not right on the edge of credit limit, keeping the amount on the card at a reasonale level and paying it over time would work best

What looks better on your credit report? paying your credit cards off or making payments over time?

Paying over time and keeping payments on time.

What looks better on your credit report? paying your credit cards off or making payments over time?

paying them off.

but it doesn%26#039;t work as a one-off thing.

a credit report is a history of your payments, not a snapshot of where you are in the present.

What looks better on your credit report? paying your credit cards off or making payments over time?

About the same as long as you are never late, I personally usually pay the full amount and mail it the next day after I get the bill. When I do occasionally make payments I send them the next day after bill arrives.

What looks better on your credit report? paying your credit cards off or making payments over time?

pay them off in full every month if you can afford it. You don%26#039;t want to pay interest.

I started using a new credit card at 0% and have only been paying the minimum since it%26#039;s 0%. my credit score went down maybe 20 points. you don%26#039;t want to use all your credit limit. pay a much as you can, unless you are doing like me and keeping the money in savings instead until the rate goes above 0%.

What looks better on your credit report? paying your credit cards off or making payments over time?

Paying over time. Keeping a small balance, at least less than 1/3 of your limit. Then pay them off within a 3 to 6 mo period.

What looks better on your credit report? paying your credit cards off or making payments over time?

As long as your balance is under 20% and your payments are on time you will get the results your looking for.

If you don%26#039;t use your cards and pay them off the card company could cancel your cards.

So keep the under 20% and pay the full balance each month for best results.

What looks better on your credit report? paying your credit cards off or making payments over time?

AT NO TIME IS KEEPING A BALANCE ON A CREDIT CARD GOOD FOR YOUR CREDIT!

The %26quot;over time%26quot; theory only applies to having the account for an extended period of time.

One of the largest factors (right behind timely payments) in calculating your credti score is your debt ratio.

Anyonen telling you to keep a balance on a card when it could be prevented prabaly works for a credit card company.

What appears worse on your credit report? A few debt collections or a single credit counseling servi

The credit conseling servie would looks worse on your report, while the debt collections are hurting your score. At least with the collections, you could negotiate a %26quot;pay to delete%26quot; and get them removed in exchange for paying the account off.

What appears worse on your credit report? A few debt collections or a single credit counseling service?

I went through credit counseling, and from experience, I can tell you that creditors look at credit counseling as being worse than bankruptcy. I don%26#039;t know why, and I don%26#039;t think it makes any sense since with credit counseling you are trying to make it better, but I have been told that from numerous creditors. So I think having a few debt collections looks better than a credit counseling service. Hope this helps! And good luck!

What appears worse on your credit report? A few debt collections or a single credit counseling service?

My niece is a loan offer and she states that they HATE to see credit counseling notations on credit reports.....I%26#039;m not saying you shouldn%26#039;t use this service....Just be warned that if you do...I don%26#039;t think you%26#039;ll be getting any loans for big ticket items like mortgages and car loans...if you do they%26#039;ll be at exorbitant interest rates.
