I%26#039;m receiving collection letters under a variation of my name for accounts stemming from unpaid balances for BMG/Columia House music and DVD clubs. They don%26#039;t have the correct spelling of my name though, should I worry and take their threats of reporting me seriously?
Can a collection agency post negatively on your credit report if your name is misspelled?
Reports are based mostly on SS security number, address, date of birth, etc. It is very unlikely that they will be successful in reporting your derogatory credit without you SS number at all. If they do, and it does show up, you can dispute it saying it%26#039;s not yours and attempt to have it removed.
I am formerly from the consumer credit industry.

Yes, because they have other information to verify that it is you. Thsi happened to my wife, where they had the wrong middle name. It still was put on her credit report.
Can a collection agency post negatively on your credit report if your name is misspelled?
